The point is that there is tremendous hypocrisy ...
by Al Franken

The point is that there is tremendous hypocrisy among the Christian right.
And I think that Christian voters should start looking
at global warming and extreme poverty as a religious
issue that speaks to the culture of life.
- Al Franken

It is easier to put on slippers
than to carpet the entire world
- Al Franken

Christian voters should start looking
at global warming and extreme poverty
as religious issues that speak to the culture of life.
- Al Franken

We need to be pro-science; we have to go back to science.
- Al Franken

Well, I think that there's a value to comedy in and of itself.
- Al Franken

When the president during the campaign said he was against nation building,
I didn't realize he meant our nation.
- Al Franken

The thing that interests me least about the radio business is the radio business.
But I've had to learn a little bit about it.
It's not rocket science: You get ratings,
that's good.

When you encounter seemingly good advice that contradicts
other seemingly good advice,
ignore them both.
- Al Franken

It's the Power of the Almighty, the Splendor of Nature,
and then you.
- Al Franken

The biases the media has are much bigger than conservative or liberal.
They're about getting ratings, about making money,
about doing stories that are easy to cover.
- Al Franken

I do personal attacks only on people who specialize in personal attacks.
- Al Franken

To make the argument that the media has a left-
or right-wing,
or a liberal or a conservative bias,
is like asking if the problem with Al-Qaeda is do they
use too much oil in their hummus.
- Al Franken

The right wing has had a radio apparatus for years and years,
so they've had minor leagues - they've had local rightwing
guys who've become national rightwing guys,
and who build slowly, and that's how it goes.
We haven't had that.
It isn't like we have a farm team.
- Al Franken

But in the right-wing media, they do have a right-wing bias.
And they also have an agenda.
So their agenda is: we're an adjunct of the Republican Party,
and we're going push that agenda every day,
and, as you say, brand these stories that help further the right-wing cause.
- Al Franken

Yeah, but you need an experienced radio veteran who is a liberal advocate.
And there just hadn't been any radio that did that.
And so they weren't trained - they had developed all
these bad habits of being objective and balanced and stuff like that.
- Al Franken

And I think that being able to make people laugh and
write a book that's funny makes the information go
down a lot easier and it makes it a lot more fun to read,
easier to understand, and often stronger.
So there's all kinds of advantages to it.
- Al Franken

Yeah, we shot ourselves in the foot right out of the gate.
The guy who ran it at first misled pretty much everybody
about how much capital we had.
He said we had enough to go three years without making money,
and we had enough to go three weeks.
- Al Franken

Mistakes are a part of being human.
Appreciate your mistakes for what they are:
precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way.
Unless it's a fatal mistake, which, at least,
others can learn from.
- Al Franken

I once asked the most fabulous couple I know,
Madonna and Guy Ritchie, how they kept things fresh
despite having been married for almost seven months.
'It's a job, Al,' Guy told me.
'We work at it every day.'
- Al Franken

The next thing I am doing is moving back home to Minnesota
and getting involved in politics.
I'm looking at a run for Senate in 2008,
but in the meantime I am focused on knitting together
the progressive network in the upper Midwest.
- Al Franken

Well, a lot of politics is communicating with people,
and obviously comedy has something to do with that.
I've been a producer and led people.
Also, being a comedian, you're under pressure.
- Al Franken

I also focus on Bush and his administration -
who do a lot of lying -
and how a right-wing media has allowed them to get
away with a lot of stuff that,
in a different media environment, they probably wouldn't
be able to get away with.
- Al Franken

If you hear, day after day, liberals are rooting against armed forces,
that is eventually going to have an effect on soldiers
and troops who are actually going to believe that and it's wrong.
It's just wrong.
- Al Franken

You never really understand a person
until you consider things from his point of view.
- Harper Lee

When people get caught up with that which is right
and they are willing to sacrifice for it,
there is no stopping point short of victory.
- Martin Luther King, Jr.

Most everything in life is about our
point-of-view rather than any absolute.
- Jonathan Lockwood Huie

Your opinion is nothing but your point of view.
- don Miguel Ruiz

We cling to our own point of view,
as though everything depended on it.
Yet our opinions have no permanence;
like autumn and winter, they gradually pass away.
- Zhuangzi

We see Life through the fun-house mirrors of our point-of-view.
- Jonathan Lockwood Huie

If there is any one secret of success,
it lies in the ability to get
the other person's point of view
and see things from that person's angle
as well as from your own.
- Henry Ford

Your point of view sets you up well in advance
for how you view the events as they unfold.
- Mary Anne Radmacher

The starting point of all achievement is desire.
- Napoleon Hill

There's a point... when you have to choose
whether to be like everybody else the rest of your life,
or to make a virtue of your peculiarities.
- Ursula K. Le Guin

We are now at a point where we must educate our children
in what no one knew yesterday,
and prepare our schools for what no one knows yet.
- Margaret Mead

Exotic or ordinary, glamorous or plain,
exciting or boring - it's all in our point-of-view.
- Jonathan Lockwood Huie

Thoughtful people seldom share exactly the same opinion -
the same point-of-view.
The wise ones understand that they know nothing -
for virtually none of our experience is truly factual -
and they graciously honor all other opinions.
- Jonathan Lockwood Huie

I will dance a little.
I will move with the wind.
I will give my body to my love and celebrate
that we have substance beyond the idea of ourselves.
We can move. We can touch. This is my physical exclamation point.
This is how I can awaken my mind to the possibilities in the day.
- Mary Anne Radmacher

If you have an important point to make,
don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver.
Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again.
Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack.
- Winston Churchill

Life is in our point-of-view.
- Jonathan Lockwood Huie

Competition has been shown to be useful
up to a certain point and no further,
but cooperation, which is the thing we must strive for today,
begins where competition leaves off.
- Franklin D. Roosevelt

Life is a continuity always and always.
There is no final destination it is going towards.
Just the pilgrimage, just the journey in itself is life,
not reaching to some point,
no goal - just dancing and being in pilgrimage,
moving joyously, without bothering about any destination.
- Osho

Each of us is burdened by an unlimited number of
expectations (demands) that we hold for the actions of others.
We "know" that there is a right way to do things,
and are often outraged when our expectations are not met.
Usually, we are unaware that we merely
have a strong opinion and point-of-view,
and are sure that we know how everything is supposed to be.
- Jonathan Lockwood Huie

Above all, don't lie to yourself.
The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie
comes to a point that he cannot
distinguish the truth within him, or around him,
and so loses all respect for himself and for others.
- Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Most of us believe that we have
been betrayed by someone outside of us -
in other words someone has done something to hurt us,
been dishonest or broken a promise made:
some trust in some concept was broken.
Indeed someone may have taken an action
that took only their needs into consideration,
they may have not followed through on a promise made,
and they may have not told you the truth.
But their actions have nothing to do with you
and have everything to do with them.
That's why no one can do anything TO you.
They can take actions that involve you that you may not like -
according to your point of view.
But you are not a victim, no way, no how.
- Sheri Rosenthal

Misery nourishes your ego -
that's why you see so many miserable people in the world.
The basic, central point is the ego.
- Osho

Each of us holds a different image of God.
There are as many perspectives on
the nature of God as there are people.
However much any of us may choose to argue,
or to fight and kill, for our point of view,
the nature of God is an unanswerable question.
Perhaps there is a specific answer,
that we will never learn - in this lifetime.
Perhaps the nature of God is so complex and multifaceted
that each view of God describes an aspect of the complex whole.
Or perhaps the nature of God is actually defined by our beliefs.
- Jonathan Lockwood Huie

Have a talk with your mind
(it really is something separate from yourself).
Lay down the law.
"My life begins TODAY.
I am like a newborn.
I have what I have today;
I have my fingers, my toes,
some people in my life,
some material and financial state.
Yesterday is only a dream -
perhaps a nightmare,
perhaps a cherished memory,
but only a dream - nothing more.
I will make all decisions and actions based solely
on what I have today as a starting point."
- Jonathan Lockwood Huie

Sometimes it happens that a man's circle
of horizon becomes smaller and smaller,
and as the radius approaches zero
it concentrates on one point.
And then that becomes his point of view.
- David Hilbert

After a certain point, money is meaningless.
It ceases to be the goal.
The game is what counts.
- Aristotle Onassis

Art begins with resistance - at the point where resistance is overcome.
No human masterpiece has ever been created without great labor.
- Andre Gide

Life repeats itself mindlessly -
unless you become mindful, it will go on repeating like a wheel.
That's why Buddhists call it the wheel of life and death,
the wheel of time.
It moves like a wheel: birth is followed by death,
death is followed by birth;
love is followed by hate, hate is followed by love;
success is followed by failure,
failure is followed by success. Just see!
If you can watch just for a few days,
you will see a pattern emerging, a wheel pattern.
One day, a fine morning, you are feeling so good and so happy,
and another day you are so dull,
so dead that you start thinking of committing suicide.
And just the other day you were so full of life,
so blissful that you were feeling thankful to God,
that you were in a mood of deep gratefulness,
and today there is great complaint
and you don't see the point why one should go on living...
And it goes on and on, but you don't see the pattern.
Once you see the pattern, you can get out of it.
- Osho

At a certain point I'm going to want to have a family.
- Gwen Stefani

While you can and should keep your composure and happiness
regardless of circumstances - regardless of your friends,
family and co-workers - regardless of gossip, sarcasm, and negativity.
Nonetheless, life is much easier and more pleasant
when you spend as much time as possible
in the company of enthusiastic positive people -
not necessarily those who agree with you,
but those who respect your right to your point of view.
- Jonathan Lockwood Huie

Food can become such a point of anxiety -
not because it's food,
but just because you have anxiety.
That's how eating disorders develop.
- Vanessa Carlton

I might as well take a nap."

- Jenny Shipley

A poet's work is to name the unnameable,

shape the world, and stop it going to sleep.
- Salman Rushdie

There comes a pause, for human strength will not endure
to dance without cessation;
and everyone must reach the point at length of absolute prostration.
- Lewis Carroll

There is a fine line between perseverance and insanity.
At what point have you tried your best,
and it's time to do something different?
It's a balance - a paradox.
If you get in the habit of giving up
as soon as something gets difficult,
your life won't work,
but if you keep tilting at windmills -
madly trying the same thing again and again,
your life also won't work.
- Jonathan Lockwood Huie

once they are discovered;
the point is to discover them.

not going to be home enough to father them.

- Martin Puryear

But I don't actually adopt the point of view that our
subjective impression of free will,
which is a kind of indeterminacy behavior,
comes from quantum mechanical indeterminacy.
- Murray Gell-Mann
