going back and dredging them up.
- Jhumpa Lahiri

Winning the Pulitzer is wonderful and it's an honor

final sort of final moment for this book and put it
behind me along with the rest of the book,
as I write more books.
- Jhumpa Lahiri

I've never had Internet access.
Actually, I have looked at things on other people's
computers as a bystander.

This story is based on a gentleman who indeed did...

You know, since the reviews have come out and people have reacted to it,
I've realized that is in a sense what has happened.

I think that would have been too overwhelming,
in a sense.
- Jhumpa Lahiri

He told me he was working as an interpreter in a doctor's office in Brookline,

On my way home, after running into him,
I just heard this phrase in my head.
- Jhumpa Lahiri

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed

"Mother Teresa Prayer"
People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
... Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you
of selfish, ulterior motives;
... Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some
false friends and some true enemies;
... Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
... Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
... Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
... Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
... Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
... Give the world the best you've got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.
We can do no great things - only small things with great love.

One of the greatest titles we can have is "old friend."
We never appreciate how important old friends are until we are older.
The problem is we need to start our old friendships when we are young.
We then have to nurture and grow those friendships over our middle age
when a busy life and changing geographies
can cause us to neglect those friends.
Today is the day to invest in those people
we hope will call us "old friend" in the years to come.

Sometimes it is relatively easy

Upon hearing an ad for the latest

our skepticism leaps to our defense.
